Deleting your account: Our Memory Book

You can permanently delete your account and all associated data at any time.

What gets deleted

Your account and login credentials: deleting immediately revokes every mobile session and API key, the same as using "Sign out everywhere". Any edit links for memories you contributed and any unused Telegram link codes stop working at the same moment. (A password reset or "Sign out everywhere" expires those edit links and link codes too, since they are credentials, and unlinks your Telegram chat and iMessage Apple ID so you link them again; you can still edit your memories from your account. A browser that was signed in before the reset cannot finish linking a chat or phone number afterwards: it is signed out instead.)
All books you own
All submissions in your books
All uploaded media files, including any upload from the app that had not finished sending, in any book
Submissions you made while signed in to other people's books
Completed exports of books you contributed to at the time of deletion, and completed exports you made of other people's books as a co-admin. These stop being available to download, and book owners can create a fresh export of the remaining content. If one of your memories was moved to someone else first, that book's exports are left alone.
Your membership in other people's books
Your reactions, and the name and text on any replies you posted
Memories you shared without signing in, using your email address, where you clicked the link we emailed to confirm that address. They are deleted with their photos and videos, the same as memories you shared while signed in, including one you confirmed while deletion was already under way.
Your name on other memories shared using your email address without signing in, where the address was never confirmed. Because anyone can type an email address, these memories are de-identified, not deleted: your name is replaced with "[deleted]", your email address is removed, and the words, photos and videos stay in the book. In the same step, the memory stops linking to its share image. The old image is then deleted, and a new one is drawn without your name. Copies of these memories, and of the confirmed ones above, that we sent to a book owner's connected services lose your name and words too. A copy sent before a memory was credited to you belongs to whoever wrote it then, and is left alone. Your data export marks each of these memories as confirmed or not, so you can see which will be deleted.
AI story interviews you gave, with their transcripts: those on your account, and those you gave without signing in under your email address or a phone number or chat you verified with us. Interviews that belong to someone else's account are left alone, even if they used your email address or a phone number that is now yours, and so is a chat interview given from a number while someone else held it. Login codes and chat sign-up links issued to your account are deleted too, even after you change your phone number.
Contact entries other book owners linked to your account, and contact entries and story requests keyed to the email address, phone number, or Telegram account you verified with us. Entries keyed only to a Telegram username belong to that book owner and are left in place, as are messaging records tied to a phone number you never verified with us. Entries, story requests, notification sign-ups and book invitations sent to a number or address while you held it stay yours after you change it, including those sent before you verified it, as long as nobody else verified it first; those sent while someone else held it are left alone. An email address our team set on your account counts as yours only once you verify it; until then, contact entries, story requests, invitations and emails sent to it are not yours and are left in place, and they become yours when you verify it.
Messages you sent us by text, chat or iMessage, and the conversation records behind them, including those sent from a number or chat before you verified it with us, as long as nobody else verified it first. They stay yours after you change your number.
Subscription and billing records. Your customer record at our payment processor is anonymised (your name, email, phone and addresses are removed) rather than deleted, so a later chargeback or dispute can still be reviewed.

Everywhere we look for your email address, it is matched however it was written: upper or lower case, extra spaces, or another form of the same letters (such as full-width characters).

What does NOT get deleted

Other people's books and the submissions made by other contributors
A memory or AI story interview our team moved to someone else's account before deletion reached it, with its photos, videos, transcript and history, and the copies of it sent to the book owner's connected apps
The words, photos and videos of memories shared under your email address that was never confirmed (your name and email address are removed from them)
Invitations you sent to other people's books, so the people you invited can still join (your name is removed from them)
Anything shared using your email address while someone else's account had it, or before someone else's account had it first: we treat what was written or confirmed while the address was yours as yours, and what was shared before any account had the address as belonging to the first account that did. This holds even when that earlier account was deleted or deactivated: we keep a coded record of when it had the address, never the address itself. Emails we sent to the address before your account had it are left alone
Anything shared using an email address our staff put on your account that you never confirmed: an address is yours only once you click the link we email to it, even if the staff member who made the change has since deleted their own account, and an address our staff move your account off stops being yours from that moment
The change history of other people's books, memories, exports and purchase records you edited, approved or requested (your name is removed from it)
Earlier versions of a memory now shared under your email address that belonged to someone else, such as a version on another person's account before our staff corrected who wrote it
Interviews and replies given from an unconfirmed account that your sign-up replaced, and contact entries other book owners linked to it: they stay in those books, no longer linked to any account, even if we restore from a backup

How to delete

Go to Settings from the navigation menu.
Scroll to the Your Data section.
Click Delete my account.
Confirm the deletion. This action is permanent and cannot be undone.

Before you delete

Consider exporting your data first so you have a copy of your memories. Once deleted, we cannot recover your account or data.

Any subscription cancellation still in progress continues after account deletion. We retain the subscription reference needed to complete that cancellation.

Account deactivated by our team?

A deactivation by our team is different from deleting your own account: your books, submissions, and media are untouched. You cannot reactivate it yourself. Registering again with the same email, or requesting a new verification email, will not work. Messages sent from a phone number or chat linked to a deactivated account are not saved either: the chat replies with a short notice and nothing else. Contact support if you believe this was a mistake.
