Exporting your book: Our Memory Book

You own your data. Our Memory Book gives you several ways to export: a print-ready PDF, a ZIP archive with all your media files, or a JSON download of your account data.

Book export (PDF)

Export a single book as a beautifully formatted PDF: readable on screen, printable at home, or print-ready for a local print shop.

Open your book and go to Exports & Tools.
Click New Export.
Choose a format (PDF for print, ZIP for a media archive, or JSON for data backup).
For PDF, work through the three sections:
- ① Choose a look. We suggest a theme based on your book's purpose, or the printed version of your book theme if it has one; you can keep it or pick another. Forty themes ship today: three general-purpose looks (Elegant Classic, Modern Clean, Storybook), five built for specific occasions (Memorial Order of Service, Wedding Album, Baby's First Year, Daily Journal, Retirement Tribute), and three art-directed compositions for when you want something more distinctive (Botanical Luxe, pressed-flower elegance with sage and gold; Heirloom Gallery, archival ivory mats and quiet captions; Editorial Noir, fashion-magazine drama in black, ivory, and copper), plus the printed versions of the book themes (Party, Logbook, Training log, Signed card, Passport, Quilt, Camera roll, Screening room, Daybook, Recipe cards, Tear-off calendar, Corkboard, Yearbook, Letterpress, Gift tags, Picture book, Gazette, Mixtape, Library card, Night sky, Field notebook, Blueprint, Airmail, Pennant, Opening night, Cutting room, Weightlifting, Darkroom and Clothesline). Each one has a different identity color, motif language, and submission layout.
- ② What goes inside. Toggle structural pages on or off: title, dedication, foreword, table of contents, contributor index, acknowledgments, closing page. Defaults are tuned to your book's purpose: a Memorial book starts with the dedication and contributor index on; a Daily Journal starts simpler. You can also organize entries by year, by month, by contributor, or leave them in chronological order.
- ③ How will you read this? Pick "On screen" (A4 PDF for digital reading), "Print at home" (Letter or 6×9 with a binding margin), or "Print at a shop" (6×9 trim with 3 mm bleed and crop marks; hand the PDF to any local print shop and they can bind it for you). Page size and orientation are also exposed under Advanced if you need to fine-tune.
Click Generate my book. The PDF is generated in the background; check back in a minute.

Customizing the words on the dedication, foreword, and closing pages

Each use case ships with a default dedication, foreword, and closing-page draft written in our voice. You can edit any of them before exporting: click Customize the words on these pages in the structure section, and either edit the draft or write your own. Leave the box blank to use the default.

Print-at-shop checklist

If you're taking the PDF to a local print shop, choose "Print at a shop" in section ③. We add 3 mm bleed and standard crop marks so the printer can trim cleanly to a 6×9 inch book. The PDF embeds the brand fonts so it renders identically anywhere.

Book export (ZIP)

Download a complete archive of your book, including its media files (photos, audio, video) alongside a JSON manifest with submission metadata. See pricing for what each plan includes.

Open your book and go to Exports & Tools.
Click New Export.
Choose ZIP as the format.
Click Request Export. The archive is generated in the background; larger books may take several minutes.

The ZIP file contains numbered directories for each submission, with each media file and a JSON file describing each submission. Each file is the same version the book shows: photos and videos are the processed, display-ready copies. A root manifest lists everything in the archive. Maximum archive size: 5 GB.

Occasionally our virus scanner flags a photo on a cautious pattern match rather than a known threat. We keep a re-encoded copy of that photo, which shows exactly the same picture, and never hand out the uploaded file itself. The ZIP and JSON exports include the re-encoded copy and mark the entry original_withheld: true. The same flag marks a photo whose full-size original has not arrived yet (or never will), because what we hold is the smaller copy, and a file our scanner quarantined. Every other entry carries original_withheld: false.

Export expiry

Exported files are stored on our servers for 30 days. After that, they are automatically deleted to manage storage. Download and save your files locally if you want to keep them longer. You can see the expiry date for each export on your book's detail page, or request a fresh export at any time.

Account data export (JSON)

Download a copy of the data tied directly to your account and identifiers: your profile (including your shelf sort preference and the list of books you have pinned), books you own (each marked whether you have pinned it), your submissions (with any headline, room or place you added, and including any you made anonymously using the same email address while it was yours, or before anyone else had it; never ones from while someone else held that address), your replies, media metadata, uploads you started from the app (file name, type, size and whether each finished), memberships, and records linked to the email address, phone number, or Telegram account you verified with us (a memory texted in while you were verifying that number is included). Email delivery records (whether a message to you was delivered or bounced) cover only messages sent while the address was yours. A Telegram username on its own is never treated as yours, because usernames can change hands; a contact entry another book owner typed about you is included only where it matches an identifier you verified. Your media metadata includes whether a photo is currently hidden from the book: a photo a book owner has hidden from view is still yours, and it is still included here. It also says whether each item is the full-size original or a smaller copy sent while the original was still uploading. Any item whose original we withhold (a photo our virus scanner flagged on a cautious pattern match, a photo whose full-size original has not arrived or never will, or a quarantined file) is marked original_withheld: true, points at its processed copy instead of the uploaded file, and lists no Live Photo motion original.

It also includes AI story interviews you gave: those on your account, and those you gave without signing in, matched by the email address you typed or by a phone number or chat you verified with us. An interview that belongs to someone else's account is never included, even if it used your email address or a phone number that is now yours, and neither is a chat interview given from a number while someone else held it; one you gave from a number you have since changed is still yours. Your email address is matched however it was written: upper or lower case, extra spaces, or another form of the same letters (such as full-width characters) all count as yours.

Go to Settings from the navigation menu.
Scroll to the Your Data section.
Click Export My Data.
Your export will be prepared and downloaded as a JSON file.

The JSON format is machine-readable and can be imported into other tools if needed. Book-wide exports for printing, ZIP archives, and collaboration data remain separate so your personal export does not package other contributors' contact details. If you contributed through a Telegram group, the export also records which group chat each session was started in.
