Contributors can record or upload video stories on any book with video enabled. Videos are automatically transcoded for smooth playback across all devices. See which plans include video.
How it works
When a book has video enabled, contributors can:
- Upload a video file from their device via the web form
- Send a video message through WhatsApp, Telegram, or MMS
Accepted formats: MP4, WebM, MOV, and most common video formats. Maximum duration depends on your plan (default: 5 minutes). Maximum file size: up to your plan's limit on the web and in the app; 20 MB via messaging channels.
Uploading via the web
- Open the submission form for the book (or choose Video from the contributor hub).
- Click Add Video and select a file from your device.
- Add an optional text caption.
- Click Submit.
After upload, the video is processed in the background. This takes a minute or two; the book owner will see it once processing completes.
What happens during processing
Uploaded videos go through several steps automatically:
- Transcoding: converted to H.264 MP4 at up to 720p for reliable playback
- Thumbnail: a preview image is extracted for the book’s public page
- Transcription: ask for a transcript when you upload (or the book owner can request one later) and the spoken audio is transcribed using AI (Whisper) and displayed alongside the video
Video via messaging channels
Video messages sent through WhatsApp, Telegram, and MMS (via SMS on supported carriers) are accepted as video submissions if the book has video enabled. These are processed the same way as uploaded videos and appear in the moderation queue like any other submission.
