If you create more than one paid book, packages are usually the better way to pay. Instead of upgrading each book individually with its own subscription, you buy a package that gives you a number of book slots at a particular plan level, then assign those slots to whichever books you choose.
How book slots work
A book slot is a one-book entitlement at a specific plan level. For example, the Family package might give you 3 Premium slots, which means you can have any 3 of your books on the Premium plan at the same time. Move a slot from one book to another whenever you want; the book that loses the slot reverts to Free.
Every account starts with unlimited Free slots, so you can create as many Free books as you like without ever buying anything.
Packages vs. per-book subscriptions
Both options exist and you can use them together. The difference is:
- A package bundles multiple slots into one subscription. One charge per month covers all the books you assign slots to. Best if you're running 2 or more paid books; usually cheaper than upgrading them individually.
- A per-book subscription upgrades exactly one book. One charge per month, one book on the paid plan. Best if you only have one book that needs paid features.
Buying a package
Visit the pricing page. The Packages section at the top shows every available bundle with its included slots and monthly price. Click Purchase on the package you want and complete checkout through Stripe. Your slots are added to your account immediately.
Assigning a slot to a book
Open any book and choose a paid plan from the plan picker on the book detail page. If you have an available slot at that plan, the book is upgraded immediately at no additional charge. If you don't, you'll be offered a per-book subscription or the option to buy a package.
Moving a slot between books
Downgrade a book back to Free to free up its slot, then assign that slot to a different book. The book you moved away from keeps all its existing memories and settings; it just loses access to paid features until you give it a new slot.
Tracking your slots
The pricing page includes a "Your book slots" summary that shows how many slots you have at each plan and how many are currently in use. The same information appears on each book's plan picker so you always know what's available before you assign or upgrade.
Cancelling a package
Cancel a package the same way you cancel any subscription: through the Stripe customer portal, accessible from the pricing page. After the current billing period ends:
- The package's slots are removed from your account.
- Books that were using those slots revert to the Free plan.
- Your books, members, and submissions are preserved; only paid features are disabled.
You can re-purchase the same package at any time to restore those slots.
